A baboon, oblivious of it's surroundings, stares at a television set in a desolate man-altered landscape. The Tree of Life in the background is struggling to survive. The bird on the top of the tree represents the connection between the sky and earth spirits and is evident in much of Hodnett's work.

The burning book serves as a stark reminder of the power of the electronic media.

This painting was first exhibited at the Britannia Community Centre Gallery in East Vancouver, Canada, in May 2002.
